Drama
Direction Short Course
When my third
short film script “TUG” was selected by Screen South/ UK Film Council for their Digital Shorts Scheme, I was invited
to attend this intensive course on fiction directing. The focus was on breaking
down the script, working with actors, shot selection and storyboarding. This hugely beneficial tutoring culminated in a 1hr
exercise in which we rehearsed, shot and edited a scene from a long running drama serial.

‘First’ for Single & Multi Camera Direction Course
After taking a GAP year in BBC Radio I was accepted onto the highest ranking media course in the country. With two practical working studios it was a steep yet exhilarating learning curve
in studio direction as well as location shooting. Gallery direction and floor
direction were taught in time controlled exercises with single or multi camera set ups.
Attention was also paid to script work and rehearsing with actors.

During this time I wrote, directed and produced a number of theatre productions which were very warmly received. In particular, “The Sermon” was a half hour play about the secularisation
of the church and the only devised piece to receive full marks from the A Level examiners that year. In 1997 I started work at BBC Radio Lancashire alongside my studies.
